Let the GBTA Academy be your ticket to a professional career boost. Choose your program based on your current level of experience and knowledge. On the Academy’s learning path, there’s a place for everyone.

Whether you’re just beginning your professional journey or well-established in the industry, the newly created GBTA Academy offers education programs to advance your personal and professional growth. Learn business basics and update core proficiencies with the latest knowledge. Participation in the Academy is not linear, but rather is based upon your experience and skill level. 

Certificate Levels:


Recommended for assistant and coordinator positions or for those new to travel management, this initial level teaches the basics of the travel business. Learn the key elements of a managed business travel program and see how these elements intersect with the core competencies necessary in the industry. Topics include components of travel management, managing supplier relationships, safety and security, travel technology basics and measuring success. The Associate certificate level offers Fundamentals of Business Travel Management and Fundamentals of Sports Business Travel Management courses.

Designed for managers and directors, this level of instruction furthers your expertise in managing or developing a travel program. Learn how business travel is integrated with the changing global business environment, and explore ways to realign programs for optimal productivity and efficiency. Topics include risk management, human resource management, contracting, communication, budgeting, data management and more. The core curriculum will be offered at the University of Virginia Darden School of Business,


Geared toward senior professionals in travel management, this more advanced level includes the full curriculum of GBTA’s Global Leadership Professional™ program. Courses concentrate on business strategy and participants use an interdisciplinary approach to uncover the opportunities and challenges of doing global business in today’s fluctuating and high-tech environment. Courses include strategic thinking, managing culture and talent, change management, financial analysis, decision making and more. Instruction developed and delivered by faculty from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.
