Cindy McCain joined a panel of Delta leaders Thursday to discuss human trafficking at Global Diversity’s latest Speaker Series event.   As co-chair for the Arizona Governor’s task force on human trafficking, McCain discussed her commitment to reduce human trafficking across the world and improve the lives of victims.

“Human trafficking is a learning curve in the U.S.,” McCain said. “When I began speaking out people’s response was ‘that doesn’t happen here,’ and it became evident to me that this was going to be an uphill climb.”

During the panel, McCain talked about her personal fight against the issue and highlighted why it is the duty of Delta people to “give a voice to the voiceless” and fight together to stop human trafficking. After sharing her story and her goals toward combatting the issue, McCain, wife of U.S. Sen. John McCain, participated in a Q-and-A with the audience.

In recognition of the more than 29 million victims, Delta continues to be an industry leader in the fight against human trafficking. In 2012, the airline was one of the 12 founding companies of the Global Business Coalition against Human Trafficking. Delta also implemented the Blue Lightning training program last September to equip frontline employees with the knowledge and resources needed to identify and report potential cases of human trafficking.
