Keep in mind that 2024 marks an election year for GBTA Chicago

It's time to start our next term of GBTA Chicago Leadership! Your participation in this process is vital for the continued success and evolution of our organization. We encourage all eligible members to consider stepping forward as candidates and to participate actively in the election process. There are plenty of opportunities to get involved!

Together, let's shape the future of our organization and uphold its values and vision!

The GBTA Chicago Board of Directors election

The GBTA Chicago Board of Directors serves as the governing body of the Association and is responsible for establishing the focus and direction of the Association. Board Members spend time deliberating on matters and policies related to the Association’s programs and services. Their opinions and experience provide needed input into shaping the strategic goals for the organization. Volunteering on the Board is a chance for our community’s leaders to make a long-term positive impact on our profession.

These positions are elected by Members through a nomination / self-nomination process. Please note that each term is 2 years and all member types can vote for each category. The requirements of our elected officials can be found in our Chapter Bylaws (Article IV - Officers and Board of Directors). 
Nominations for 2025/2026 term will be open for a couple weeks this Fall, with elections to follow (exact dates coming soon).

Open Positions for Board of Directors (serving the 2025 & 2026 term):
  • President
  • First Vice President
  • Second Vice President
  • Treasurer
  • Secretary

Open Positions for Direct and Allied Council (serving the 2025 & 2026 term):
  • Direct Council (2 Buyers)
  • Allied Council (4 Suppliers)

Board Composition

The present GBTA Chicago Board of Directors holds 7 members with a varied representation:

  • 2 Direct (buyer) Member Officers (President and Direct Member-at-Large)
  • 5 Allied (supplier) Member Officers representing air, ground, and hotel categories (1st and 2nd Vice Presidents, Treasurer, Secretary, Allied Member-at-Large)

Voting Eligibility

According to the Bylaws, each GBTA Chicago Voting member (Direct/Allied) will be permitted to cast one vote for vacant seats on the Board by electronic ballot. Individuals must be a Direct or Allied Member of GBTA Chicago to be eligible to vote.

The Election Process

GBTA Chicago’s election process is guided by GBTA Chicago’s Bylaws, which require that activities and deadlines are met in a timely manner. The critical dates and process are noted below:

  • September 10 - October 15 – Open call for Nominations / Self-nominations
  • October – Candidates Announced
  • November Voting Commences
  • December 10, 2024 – Newly Elected Board of Directors Announced at Annual Meeting in December

Member Voting Process

GBTA Chicago Board elections will begin this Fall. All eligible members will receive a personalized email from “GBTA Chicago Elections”. The email will be titled “GBTA Chicago Board of Directors Elections 2024.” If you don’t receive the voting email, check your spam folders. If not found, contact us at [email protected].
