Community Outreach Committee
The goal and purpose of the Community Outreach Committee is to provide fun and engaging events for our members while positively impacting our community at large on a variety of charitable outlets in the Chicagoland area throughout the year. In addition, this committee is an avenue for individuals joining GBTA Chicago who wish to internally volunteer and assist other committees with various needs.
Below are some internal activities that members of the Community Outreach Committee would be called on to assist.
- Volunteering at quarterly meetings – distributing materials, selling raffle tickets
- Greeting new members to GBTA Chicago
- Assisting with the annual Special Event
- Assisting with the annual Charity Fundraiser

Education & Programs Committee
In an ever changing and evolving travel industry, the Education & Programs Committee is committed to bringing its members relevant and timely educational and networking opportunities throughout the year. The Committee’s goal is achieve the overall organizations’ mission of delivering resources and professional development to our members. Our committee is comprised of well seasoned travel experts that are devoted to ensuring this mission is professionally met while having a little fun. Our committee is motivated by the tag line “Getting Our Learning On”
Annual Opportunities include:
- Quarterly meetings & seminars that offer insight in today’s “Hot Topics” in Travel & Meetings Industry.
- Direct Member Round Tables that provide an open forum for Travel & Meeting Buyers.
- Allied Square Tables that showcase topics directed specifically to our vast Allied and Associate members.
- Education Day - an in-depth discussion by panels of experts in the most meaningful areas of travel that are suggested by YOU.
Government Relations Committee
The purpose of government relations committee is to be the voice of GBTA Chicago at all levels of government including city, state, and national. Government relations is a bipartisan committee that strives to obtain political support for legislation that supports business travel.
Additional duties of this committee includes:
- Identifying qualified government speakers
- Fundraising for GBTA PAC
- Representing the Chicago chapter at Legislative Symposium
- Carry out duties and actions agreed upon in board/committee meetings
- Educate board, committee, and membership on current legislative topics
Kim Conway
Marketing and Communications Committee
Our Mission is to communicate the opportunities, programs, and achievements of GBTA Chicago to the membership and travel community. As a committee, we strive to maintain our Chapter’s visibility and encourage growth through local and national involvement.
Marketing and Communications (“Mar/Com”) Committee’s main responsibilities include facilitating the following:
- Annual Communication/Media Plan
- Monthly Newsletter
- Social Media Strategy
- Public Relations support
Our committee’s goal is to drive awareness and engagement to the travel community by supporting these areas and providing communication vehicles for:
- Educational and networking opportunities
- Insight on current trends and topics affecting the travel industry
- GBTA news and resources
- Personal communication for membership
- Linking the Executive Board, Committees, and Membership to one another
Membership Committee
The role of the membership committee is to maintain communication between GBTA Chicago and its current and prospective members. Although the responsibilities are multifaceted, the primary goals are as follows:
- Collecting and maintaining contact information for the membership directory
- Brainstorming creative ideas to retain existing members and attract new members.
- Organize the annual membership appreciation event and new member drive events
Scholarship Committee
The Scholarship Committee is responsible for assisting our members with various scholarship opportunities. GBTA Chicago is proud to support our memberships continuing education through scholarships each year and the Scholarship Committee helps organize and distribute the awarded scholarships. Special Event Committee
Our mission is to plan, promote and host a unique, annual event to raise funds for special Chapter initiatives and additional member benefits such as scholarships.
A secondary objective is to provide a local student intern the opportunity to assist in event execution and be mentored by GBTA Chicago member professionals.
In addition to raising funds for the future travel leaders, this event provides a fun, exciting activity for Chicago Chapter members, Chapter Partners, and guests to network and promote their corporate brand to the community.
Sponsorship Committee
The Sponsorship Committee role is to maintain and develop new sponsors to help execute our quarterly meetings and provide the education/networking opportunities to our members. The Sponsorship Committee strives to maximize sponsorship value to increase overall sponsor satisfaction.
